On July 6, 2024, Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, has announced a plan to launch a gas-free stablecoin.

This solution aims to enable peer-to-peer transfers without the need for gas tokens, making transactions completely free for users.

Justin Sun only stated that the fees being entirely covered by the stablecoins themselves. But the exact mechanics of the stablecoin solution have not been disclosed.

Sun plans to launch the stablecoin on Tron blockchain first, follow by Ethereum and then other EVM blockchains.

Sun believes that gas-free stablecoins could revolutionize the way companies offer stablecoin services.

By covering the transaction fees with the stablecoins themselves, he envisions a more accessible and widespread adoption of blockchain technology.

This development could provide competition for existing offerings such as PayPal’s PYUSD, which enables certain US users to make cross-border payments without fees.

Additionally, Circle’s USD Coin on Ethereum’s layer 2 Base via Coinbase Wallet already allows for free transfers.
