LayerZero, a cross-chain interoperability protocol, has recently concluded a significant phase in its operations concerning sybil activity, commonly known as airdrop farming.

The protocol's team initially flagged over two million addresses as potential sybils but refined their criteria to minimize false identifications, resulting in a more precise classification of 803,093 addresses.

These identified addresses will not receive the full token allocation they might have expected.

LayerZero Labs on X: "The sybil self-report phase has now concluded. Each self-reported address will receive 15% of its intended token allocation, with the remaining 85% returning to qualified users.

Instead, LayerZero has decided that addresses meeting their refined criteria will receive only 15% of their anticipated token allocation, with the remaining 85% being redistributed to eligible users.

This move is part of LayerZero's efforts to maintain fairness and integrity within its ecosystem, especially ahead of its airdrop.

The protocol introduced a self-reporting mechanism, which allowed users involved in sybil activities to come forward within a 14-day period and claim 15% of their planned token allocation for their honesty.

This initiative was part of a broader strategy to address the issue of sybil farming, where individuals create multiple fake accounts to unfairly acquire tokens or rewards.

The self-reporting phase was followed by a bounty hunting process, where participants could report sybil addresses with a clear methodology and be eligible for a reward.

This process underscores the protocol's commitment to tackling fraudulent activities and ensuring an equitable distribution of tokens.

LayerZero's approach to handling sybil activity reflects a growing trend in decentralized finance protocols to create more traction by rewarding early users with newly issued cryptocurrencies, while also taking steps to prevent abuse of the system.

The final, authoritative list of sybil addresses will be shared once the bounty hunt ends.

Conclusion

The conclusion of the Sybil self-report phase marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure fair token distribution and address the issue of airdrop farming.

With the phase now completed, self-reported addresses are set to receive 15% of their intended token allocation.

The remaining 85% of tokens will be redistributed to qualified users, reinforcing the commitment to equitable practices.

LayerZero Labs' meticulous approach in refining the criteria for identifying potential Sybil addresses is an attempt to improve token allocation process.
