Stellar launched Protocol 20 smart contract on its mainnet

On Feb 20, 2024, Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) launched Protocol 20 upgrade that enable Stellar blockchain to have smart contract capability. Protocol 20 upgrade comes with the Soroban smart contract.

 

Previously Stellar blockchain did not support smart contract. Stellar started to deploy Soroban smart contract 16 months ago on October 2022.

 

Now developers can build dApps and create smart contracts on Stellar blockchain.

 


Soroban is version 20 of the Stellar protocol. It introduced Soroban smart contract. It is a smart contract platform with built-to-scale functionality and developer-friendly.

 

Soroban aims to created uncomplicated developer experience. Developers can get applications built and running easier.

 

Stellar is a hard fork of XRP. It is a blockchain for payments and tokenization. It was founded by Jed McCaleb.

 

Stellar blockchain can process 4,000 transactions per second and it supports smart contracts. Stellar’s time to finality is 5.8 seconds.

 

Stellar was successfully uploaded smart contracts on its mainnet. With smart contract capability, Stellar blockchain can go beyond payment. XLM the native token of Stellar blockchain currently ranks 33rd largest crypto by market cap.
