Taiko, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, has officially launched its mainnet on May 27, 2024. After the development that began in 2022.

Taiko announces on X that the Taiko protocol has been deployed on Ethereum mainnet. Users can bridge ETH from Ethereum to Taiko using Taiko’s official bridge.

Taiko is an Ethereum-equivalent (Type 1) ZK-EVM that is maximally compatible with Ethereum.

It doesn’t require additional compiling, reaudits, or tooling. Taiko is a based rollup, meaning the transaction sequencing on Taiko is done by Ethereum validators. This design ensures robust security guarantees from the base layer.

Taiko uses the Based Contestable Rollup (BCR). It is a rollup that features contestation and uses based sequencing. Base Rollup means L1 validators could be L2 proposers or sequencers.

The launch was marked by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposing the first block, embedded with the names of all Taiko core contributors.

Vitalik Buterin expressed his excitement and anticipation for Taiko’s mainnet launch, praising it as the first based rollup and emphasizing its innovative approach that benefits Ethereum by exploring new possibilities for scaling and decentralization.

Taiko Labs has also introduced the Trailblazer incentive program with 10% TKO total supply as participation incentives over the coming years.

Since its inception, Taiko has secured $37 million in funding and developed the Based Contestable Rollup (BCR), which minimizes costs, strengthens decentralization, and enhances security through a multi-proof system. It now has the largest Discord community in the blockchain space.

Taiko plans to launch Taiko’s TKO token in a few weeks.
