Berkshire Hathaway, a holding company runs by Warren Buffett bought 60.1
million TSMC depository receipts during the third quarter of 2022. Calculated
from the price of TSMC stock during the third quarter, Warren Buffett spent
roughly 5.1 billion for 60.1 million TSMC depository receipt.
A depository receipt is a share that investors choose to buy from an agent
that issued a DR instead of buying direct stock, usually happen with the
purchase of foreign stocks. Investors can purchase DR in stock exchange.
TSMC major clients including Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Apple. It is a Taiwanese
chipmaking manufacturer. Snapdragon and Apple A Series chipset are both manufactured
by TSMC.
TSMC’s market share is 55.6%, whereas Samsung has 16.4% market
share. TSMC is the world 14th largest companies by market
capitalization.
The most successful technology investment of Warren Buffett is Apple.
This is an important move for Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffett and
two of his advisors Ted Weschler and Todd Comb are shifting toward investing in
technology companies.
