WazirX’s hacker has exchanged most of the stolen crypto into ethers

Lookonchain on X: "The #WazirX exploiter has exchanged most of the assets for 43,800 $ETH($149.46M) and currently holds 59,097 $ETH($201.67M). 


 

Security breach on July 18, 2024, at WazirX, India’s largest crypto exchange, resulted in $230 million loss of funds.

 

The stolen crypto assets include SHIB, ETH, USDT, PEPE, MATIC, FLOKI, GALA and other. 

 

$230 million was stolen from WazirX’s multisig wallet, with a large portion in SHIB ($102 million) and ETH ( $52 million).

 

The hacker managed to stole assets worth $230 million and has since converted the majority of these assets into Ethereum (ETH).

 

On July 19, the hacker exchanged the stolen assets for 43,800 ETH, valued at about $149.46 million.

 

The hacker’s wallet currently holds around 59,097 ETH, which is estimated to be worth $201.5 million.

 

In addition to the converted ETH, the hacker still retains about $15 million in various other cryptocurrencies.

 

The method of the hack is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest the involvement of techniques commonly used by North Korean hackers, who have a history of targeting cryptocurrency exchanges.

 

WazirX has halted all withdrawals as they investigate the security lapse, which was reported to have stemmed from a discrepancy between the data displayed on Liminal’s interface and the actual transaction contents.
