WazirX is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in India.

 

One of WazirX’s multisig wallets encountered with a security breach on July 18, 2024.

 

WazirX’s multisig wallet was hacked, resulting in the abnormal transfer of funds.

 

The exploit led to the theft of $235 million.

 

On-chain analysts have tied the exploit to North Korean hackers.

The stolen crypto assets include SHIB, ETH, USDT, PEPE, MATIC, FLOKI, GALA and other. $235 million was stolen from WazirX’s multisig wallet, with a large portion in SHIB and ETH.

 

WazirX has paused withdrawals to protect remaining assets and is actively investigating the incident.


Blockchain sleuths and firms like Elliptic are involved in analyzing the attack, suggesting sophisticated North Korean involvement.

 

This breach has had a substantial impact on the exchange’s financial stability, accounting for over 45% of the total reserves.
