Microsoft acquired GitHub, a software development hosting service company for $7.5 billion in 2018. Microsoft acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion in Microsoft Stock.

 

GitHub founded by Tom Preston-Werner and Chris Wanstrath. It makes codes and programs store in the cloud using Git.

 

In 2009 GitHub had 46,000 developer accounts. GitHub had 28 million developer accounts when Microsoft bought it in 2018.
