According to a report released by BloombergNews on Friday, Apple Inc is currently engaged in new discussions with OpenAI regarding the potential utilization of the startup's generative AI technology for upcoming features in the iPhone later this year.
The two companies have commenced talks to explore the terms of a possible agreement and the integration of OpenAI's features into Apple's next iPhone operating system, iOS 18.
The information was disclosed by individuals familiar with the matter, as cited in the report.
In the previous month, Bloomberg reported that Apple was in negotiations to acquire a license for Google's Gemini chatbot in order to incorporate it into new iPhone features.
At present, Apple has not reached a final decision regarding which partners to collaborate with.
They may potentially form an agreement with both OpenAI and Google, or they may opt for an alternative provider entirely, as stated in the Bloomberg report.
In terms of implementing generative AI, which possesses the capability to produce responses resembling those written by humans, Apple has been comparatively slower compared to competitors such as Microsoft and Google, who have already integrated this technology into their products.
In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the company's significant investments in generative AI.
He also indicated that more detailed information regarding Apple's plans to utilize this technology would be unveiled later this year.
