Coinbase, a major cryptocurrency
exchange, is hiring more than 130 people in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The company says it’s expanding there
because Charlotte is becoming a key city for finance and tech jobs, especially
in fintech and compliance.
The new hires will mostly work in
Compliance and Customer Support.
This hiring will happen over the next
six months, and Coinbase is also opening a physical office in the city.
Although Coinbase has been a
remote-first company since 2020, with most employees working from home.
They said some jobs need to be at the
office. About 95% of their workers can still choose whether to work remotely,
in-office, or a mix.
The Charlotte expansion is part of a
bigger plan. CEO Brian Armstrong recently said the company wants to hire about
1,000 new employees across the U.S. this year. He said this is partly thanks to
pro-crypto moves by President Donald Trump’s administration.
Adding 1,000 new employees would
increase Coinbase’s total workforce by around 27%. Right now, the company has
about 3,772 employees.
Coinbase also said it’s thinking about
applying for a U.S. federal bank charter.
