During a latest airdrop event, cross-chain protocol Wormhole mistakenly allocated tokens to wallets that belonged to hackers who exploited the system in 2022.

A crypto user named Pland on Twitter (X) noticed that Wormhole failed to exclude the exploiter from the airdrop.

The addresses associated with the hack received over 31,600 W tokens, valued at approximately $38,000.

However, the allocated tokens have since been removed from the hacker's addresses, as confirmed by a reliable source.

These addresses belonged to the hacker who stole 120,000 ETH from the interoperability protocol in 2022. At the time, this exploit amounted to around $323 million, making it one of the largest hacks in the history of decentralized finance.

Wormhole's airdrop event gained significant attention within the crypto community since its initial announcement.

CoinGecko data shows that approximately $1.25 billion worth of W tokens have been traded since the event began.

The price of the W token experienced fluctuations throughout the day, reaching a peak of $1.66. As of the time of publication, the price currently stands at $1.21.
