Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, is currently in a "positive situation," as confirmed by He Yi, the co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange.
CZ is facing sentencing in the United States on April 30 for one felony charge.
During the Binance Chinese Meetup at the Token2049 conference in Dubai, Yi addressed concerns about the regulatory status of the exchange.
While her statements were not directly quoted, she Expressed confidence in CZ's current standing in the US, stating that previous regulatory pressures were anticipated internally.
Given the circumstances, she believes the existing situation is the most favorable outcome.
If CZ is convicted in the District Court of Western Washington, he could face a prison term of up to 10 years.
The recommended sentence in the guidelines, however, is 12 to 18 months.
This single charge stems from a settlement reached in November, which also required the company to forfeit $4.3 billion.
As a result of the settlement, CZ was forced to resign as Binance CEO.
In the United States, CZ is currently free on a $175-million bond, but with travel restrictions.
He has requested permission to travel to Dubai, where he resides, on two occasions due to a medical situation involving one of his children.
In response, the U.S. Attorney's Office sought to seize his passports, as CZ holds both a Canadian passport and is a citizen of the United Arab Emirates.
Yi, who is the mother of at least two of CZ's three children, denies being his current romantic partner. She holds an undisclosed stake in the exchange.
Since CZ's resignation as CEO, Binance has distanced itself from him.
Richard Teng, the former Binance head of regional markets outside the United States, has taken over as his replacement.
Teng has emphasized that Binance operates under a "totally different" approach with him at the helm.
The exchange recently established a board of directors.
Reports indicate that Binance obtained a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license in Dubai on April 18.
As part of the licensing condition, CZ was allegedly required to relinquish his voting rights in the local entity, Binance FZE.
However, Binance has chosen not to comment on this claim.
