The Kenya Police Service has apprehended Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance employee, who was attempting to flee.
The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) is now taking steps to extradite him to Nigeria within the upcoming week.
Government insiders, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to lack of authorization, confirmed this development to our correspondent on Sunday night.
According to one source, "Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive from Binance, has been arrested by the Kenya Police Service, and he will be extradited to Nigeria this week with the assistance of INTERPOL."
Another source stated, "As we previously announced, Anjarwalla's extradition is imminent. He has now been apprehended in Kenya and will be extradited to Nigeria this week."
"We have located him. He is currently in Kenya, and we are collaborating with the authorities to bring him back to Nigeria.
The government and security agencies are working diligently alongside the Kenyan authorities and INTERPOL to ensure his return for facing the charges against him.
Meanwhile, in the March edition of its bulletin titled "EFCC Alert," Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the EFCC, confirmed that the commission, in collaboration with INTERPOL, the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, is working towards extraditing Anjarwalla.
Olukoyede stated, "The commission's assumption of the prosecution of Binance executives sends a strong message regarding the EFCC's determination to curb distortions and disruptions in the country's foreign exchange market."
"The charges against Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, the company's chief executives, include tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35,400,000.
While Gambaryan is currently in custody, the process of extraditing Anjarwalla, who is on the run, is progressing rapidly. The International Criminal Police Organisation, the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya are all involved in partnership with the EFCC to apprehend Anjarwalla.
His arraignment in absentia, alongside the company and Gambaryan, is imminent as the clock ticks," concluded Olukoyede.
