Unichain, the Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution developed by
Uniswap Labs, is set to launch its public mainnet in early 2025.
The project has successfully completed its Sepolia testnet
phase, handling over 50 million test transactions and deploying more than 4
million test contracts.
The mainnet launch will introduce Permissionless Fault Proofs
from day one, enhancing decentralization and user safety. Users will be able to
bridge funds directly to the network, and applications supporting Unichain will
go live shortly after the launch.
Unichain is a Layer-2 (L2) network developed by Uniswap Labs,
designed to address the scalability and cost challenges associated with
decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Ethereum blockchain.
Unichain is built on the Optimism Superchain, utilizing
optimistic roll-up technology. It built in collaboration with OP Labs and
Flashbots.
Unichain aims to reduce transaction costs, targeting a
decrease of 95% compared to Ethereum's Layer 1 fees to make DeFI transactions
more affordable.
It comes with near-instant transactions, with block times as
low as 200-250 milliseconds.
Unichain introduces a staking mechanism that allows UNI token
holders to participate in sequencer validation, contributing to the network's
security and efficiency.
